FAQ Project Plan 365
FAQCategory: Tasks

The Actual Start and Actual Finish fields are not allowed to modify them.

Question Link
Answer

In our application you cannot change the Actual Start Date, but as a workaround, after you created your plan, please set a baseline in order to see a difference between Planned Start Date and Actual Start Date.
In this way, the Scheduled Start date is in fact the Baseline Date.
After this, if your task actually starts on other date you can change the Start Date for that task. This will be the Actual Date.
So, the Actual Date is in fact is the Start Date and the Scheduled Date is the Baseline Date you set in the application when you initially created your plan.

How "Set Baseline" works in a MPP file?

Question Link
Answer

To set baseline start/duration/finish first set them in Entry table and then use “Set baseline” option that will update Baseline Start/Duration/Finish to the new values. Baseline table is used to correct / update individual baseline start/duration/finish values without using “Set baseline” option – but no calculation are made.

Please read the article below about how to set a baseline in a MPP file:

Under Options, schedule, our project start time has been set to 7am start, 9 hr days, 45 hours per week. When populating Gantt chart there is a unfixable error with the start and finish times

Answer

You need to change the working time for calendars. So, please go to menu Project -> Change working time and for the default calendar set the working hours from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Also, please make sure the time of the Start Date for you project is set to 7:00 AM. To check this, go to Project -> Project Information and see what is the time you set for Start Date.

I am accessing some task to change predecessors, but they do not auotmatically move. It keeps the start date and duration as priority, rather then logic links I am giving with predecessors. For example one task is Finish to finish with the previous one with a lag of 7 days (so it should finish 7 days later). It does not move it!

Answer

Hi,
Yes, the reported issues is not a issue, also in MSP when a task have progress(%>0 ) the start dates is not changed when user try to change predecessors or change project start date or any other actions.
"If a task has any actuals applied, such as an actual start date or a percentage of work completed, the task can't be rescheduled any earlier than the date when the task actually began. If no progress is entered and the task has an inflexible constraint, the constraint can take precedence over task dependencies."
Solution: Please remove % complete values then try again to change predecessors value
