Describe the changes you need
Open your Microsoft Project MPP file and tell ChatGPT what you want to update. You can request supported changes to tasks, dates, durations, progress, and resource assignments.
Identify the relevant task or resource and explain the change. The plugin prepares a preview so you can review the proposed update before saving it.
You can work with an uploaded MPP file or a project created in the conversation.
Request, review, and approve project updates
Step 1 — Open your project
Start a conversation using the connected Project Plan 365 plugin. Upload and open an MPP file, or use a project created in the conversation.
Step 2 — Describe the change
Specify what should be updated and identify the task or resource clearly.
Step 3 — Review the preview
Check the proposed changes and any scheduling effects shown in the result.
Step 4 — Approve or revise
Approve the preview to apply it, or request adjustments before proceeding.
Step — 5 Keep the updated project
Download the updated MPP file or ask to open the current project in Project Plan 365 Web.
Update your project from the conversation
You can request supported changes such as:
Task names: Rename tasks to clarify the work.
New tasks: Add activities with their relevant scheduling details.
Durations and dates: Update task scheduling information.
Progress: Change a task’s completion percentage.
Resource assignments: Assign resources to tasks.
Include the details needed to apply your request accurately, such as task IDs, durations, resource names, or the intended phase.
Try requests like these
Rename a task
“Rename task ID 5 to ‘Review Website Design’ and show me the proposed change.”
Change a duration
“Change the duration of task ID 5 to 4 working days and show me the proposed changes.”
Add a task
“Add a task named ‘Review Website Content’ with a duration of 2 working days.”
Update progress
“Set task ID 8 to 50% complete and show me the proposed change.”
Assign a resource
“Assign Anna to task ID 6 and show me the proposed change.”
Check the result of your update
After applying the change, ask for the updated task details or a project summary. You can also open the project in Project Plan 365 Web to inspect the schedule visually.
Changes to scheduling information may affect related tasks. Review the result before sharing or continuing with the updated file.
Download the updated MPP file
Changes are applied to the project’s working copy in the plugin. They do not overwrite the original file stored on your device.
After applying changes, ask for the updated MPP file and download it to keep the latest version. You can then continue working in Project Plan 365 or Microsoft Project.
