Microsoft Project is a project management software product, developed and sold by Microsoft.

What is MPP file format?

MPP is an extension for a project file used by Microsoft Project project management software. These files store the info used by Microsoft Project to manage the assigning, tracking and reporting results on the aspects of project work, teams, schedules and finances.

What are the MS Project supported versions?

The following Microsoft Project file formats are supported: Microsoft Project files 2010, Microsoft Project files 2013, Microsoft Project files 2016, Microsoft Project files 2019 and Microsoft Project files 2021. In this way, you don't need to have Microsoft Project installed on your device so that you can access MS Project information.

How do I check the version of Microsoft Project that I use?

In case of Microsoft Project 2016 and 2013, this value is located in the Account menu from the File backstage. In case of Microsoft Project 2010, this value is located in the Help menu from the File backstage.

I have a mpp file created with Microsoft Project and in Project Plan 365 there are some differences. Shouldn't it be compatible?

Project Plan 365 aims to be compatible with the latest updates and versions of Microsoft Project. If you open the file in Project Plan 365 and notice differences you need to update the latest version of Microsoft Project.

What versions Project Plan 365 app support for opening?

Project Plan 365 will open any MPP file created with MS Project versions as early as 2010.

Is Project Plan 365 compatible with MS Project 2019?

Project Plan 365 is compatible with MS Project 2019.

Is this software from Microsoft?

Our software is not part of Office 365. Our tool is called Project Plan 365 and it is compatible with Microsoft Project in the sense that you can open in our tool the files saved in Microsoft Project or you can open in Microsoft Project the files created in our tool, but we are not a Microsoft owned application, so you can’t Sign In inside the Microsoft Project application with the subscription purchased for our application or vice versa.

Is there a feature to prevent editing a file that is open with MS Project?

We do not have a functionality as this time to prevent editing a file that is open with MS Project.

Is the application able to open MPX files?

With Project Plan 365 app you can open the MPX files.

Why I can't open an mpp file?

The MPP files saved with Project Plan 365 are compatible with Microsoft Project 2010 and newer versions.

We are sorry, but the MPP files saved with Project Plan 365 are compatible with Microsoft Project 2010 and newer versions.

Can I use this application without having Microsoft Project installed?

Yes, you can use our application without having Microsoft Project installed on your device. Please know that our software is not part of Office 365. Our tool is called Project Plan 365 and it is compatible with Microsoft Project in the sense that you can open in our tool the files saved in Microsoft Project or you can open in Microsoft Project the files created in our tool, but we are not a Microsoft owned application.

Does Project Plan 365 have Macros compatibility?

We are sorry but there’s no compatibility between the MACROS of MS-Project and our application and we don’t run macros.

Can I import data from Office 365 to Project Plan Software?

You can open projects created in Microsoft Project as they are .mpp format which is compatible with Project Plan 365.

Do you support the roadmap functionality?

We are sorry, but at this point, we do not support the roadmap functionality.

Step by step on how to Open/View/Edit/Save an MPP file created with MS Project with Project Plan 365:

1. Open the Project Plan 365 app.

2. Go to menu File – Open and select the place where your file is saved.

3. Open the desired MPP file created in MS Project.

4. You can apply different views: Gantt Chart, Resource Sheet, Tracking Gantt etc. like in MS Project.

5. You can edit your tasks using the Gantt Chart view.

6. To save your changes, go to menu File – Save.

Step by step on how to Open/View/Edit/Save an MPP file created with Project Plan 365 with MS Project:

1. Open the Project Plan 365 app.

2. Go to menu File - New - Blank Project.

3. In the Gantt Chart view insert the tasks and resources.

4. Save your file to your local device by going to menu File - Save As - Computer.

5. Open the Microsoft Project app.

6. Go to menu File – Open and select the MPP file.

7. The MPP file created in Project Plan 365 app is opened successfully in MS Project.
