Microsoft Project for Mac: Supported Options and Limitations
Microsoft Project desktop has no native macOS edition; its desktop installation is for Windows PCs.1 Mac users who need to work with an MPP schedule can use a separate Mac application, such as Project Plan 365.
Working with MPP files on a Mac
Section titled “Working with MPP files on a Mac”Project Plan 365 is an independent product, not Microsoft Project for Mac. It is designed for a familiar Project-style planning workflow and can open, edit, and save MPP files. Its Mac product page describes full MPP compatibility and lists files from Project 2010 through Project 2024 as supported.
MPP support does not make the products identical: Project Plan 365 has its own features and controls. For file-exchange considerations, see Microsoft Project for Mac: File Compatibility and Exchange. For platform and product comparisons, see Microsoft Project Alternatives for Mac Users.
Other Mac guidance
Section titled “Other Mac guidance”To open a plan and begin working in the Mac app, see Microsoft Project on Mac: Getting Started. Planner is a separate browser-based planning experience, not a Mac edition of Project desktop; the alternatives article explains that distinction.
