What is Microsoft Project Server?

Microsoft Project Server is a project management server solution made by Microsoft.

Can I open a project plan from Project Server 2019?

Our application offers support to open plans for all Project Server 2019 earlier versions. For saving plans we are compatible with Project Server 2013, 2016 and 2019.

Can I save a project plan on Project Server 2019?

For saving the plans, Project Plan 365 is compatible with Project Server 2013, 2016 and 2019.

How can I open a project from Project Server?

To open a project from Project Server, go to File menu - Open - Project Server/Online. Enter Server URL then enter windows credentials like domain\Username and password. If you are authenticated inserting your username and password won’t be necessary. Once the connection is established a list of available projects will be displayed. There are several ways to open a project from the Project Server file picker:

  1. Double click on a project;
  2. Select a project and click Open button;
  3. Right-click on a project and select Open in contextual menu;
  4. Select a project and click Enter key.

How can I save a project in Project Server?

To save a project on Project Server use Save as functionality available on File - Save as (also click the Other locations dropdown if on Mac) - Project Server / Online - enter Server URL Enter windows credentials like domain\Username and password Enter project name and press Save.

Is it possible to save enterprise custom fields?

With Project Plan 365 app you can save Enterprise custom fields for Project Server 2013, 2016 and 2019.

Note: Only standard and lookup values are supported (advanced values like Formula and Graphical indicators are not supported).

How to search for a file in Project Server?

In order to search for a file in Project Server cloud file picker, in the search box from the right corner of the file picker start typing part of the file name you want to find. As you type, the results for your search will be shown.

How to create a new (empty) project in Project Server?

In order to create a new project in Project Server cloud, click on New Project button, enter the name for the project you want to create in Create New Project dialog and click OK button or Enter key. The empty project will be created in the current directory with the entered name.

How to rename an existing project in Project Server?

In order to rename an existing project from Project Server cloud, right-click on the project you want to rename and choose Rename option in the contextual menu. In the Rename Project dialog that appeared, enter the new name and click OK button.

How to sort the files and folders Project Server?

To sort files in a different order, click one of the column headings in the file picker. For example, click Name to sort by file name. Click the column heading again to sort in the reverse order.

Can I sign out from Project Server?

You can Sign Out from Project Server. In order to do that, go to the File menu, select Open then select the Project Server/Online cloud. In the file picker that appears, click Sign Out button from the upper right side of the dialog. If you want to sign in with a different account, first you must sign out and then sign in with the desired account.

How to share a project file from Project Server?

You can share your project with your team members by using the Share option from the Team - Share menu, by clicking on the Share Project button from the Share bar that appears immediately after opening a file or by going to File menu – OpenProject Server/Online and in the file picker, right-click on the project you want to share and choose Share option from the contextual menu. Then, just type the E-mail address and a message, if you want, and click on one of the three options available in the Share Projects with the Team Members dialog: Copy Link, Send as PDF (not available when sharing from file picker), Send as MPP (not available when sharing from file picker). Then, click on the Share Project button from the dialog and the E-mail will be sent to the added e-mail address.

Step by step on how to open a file from Microsoft Project Server:

1. Go to File - Open.

2. Click Project Server / Online.

3. Enter server URL like http(s)://server-name/sites/pwa.

4. Enter windows credentials like domain\Username and password.

5. Open a project. You can do that in several ways:

  1. Double click on a project;
  2. Select a project and click Open button;
  3. Right-click on a project and select Open in contextual menu;
  4. Select a project and click Enter key.

Step by step on how to save a file to Microsoft Project Server:

You can create a project from scratch in Project Plan or edit an existed one then save it to Project Server when you're ready.

1. Go to File - Save as.

2. Click the Other locations dropdown, then the Project Server / Online button. Skip this step if not on Mac.

3. Enter server URL like http(s)://server-name/sites/pwa.

4. Enter windows credentials like domain\Username and password.

5. Insert the name of the project and press Save.

1. Go to menu Format - Insert Column.

2. Select the desired column you want to insert and click Ok.

3. Edit the values.

Step by step on how to share a project file from Project Server:

1. Go to File - Open.

2. Click Project Server/Online.

3. Follow steps 3-4 from Step by step on how to open a file from Microsoft Project Server.

4. Select a file from the file picker.

5. Right-click on the selected file and choose Share in contextual menu.

6. You can also click on Share Project button from Share bar or go to the Share menu and click on Share option. 

7. Type e-mail addresses in “Add People by E-mail Adress” and a message if you want. 

8. Click on the Share Project.

4. Locate the search box in the right corner of the file picker.

5. Choose Rename option from the contextual menu.

6. Enter a new name in Rename Project dialog and click OK or press the Enter key.

7. The project will be renamed.

Note:  The project name cannot contain any illegal characters such as / ? < > \ : * | " + `  .
